Stainless steel is divided into many types according to its chromium and nickel content. Among them, only stainless steel with a chromium and nickel content of less than 18% can be attracted by magnets. Specifically, martensitic stainless steel can be attracted by magnets, while ferritic stainless steel can only be partially attracted by magnets. In contrast, austenitic stainless steel (such as 304 stainless steel), due to its large chromium and nickel content and low or no magnetism, is not easily attracted by magnets.
